Suspect Arrested In November Fatal Hit-And-Run

The suspect believed to be responsible for striking a cyclist at North Claiborne and St. Philip Street on November 7 and leaving the scene is behind bars today (Dec. 23).

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Alvin Berfect (DOB: 11/16/1989) on Manslaughter and Felony Hit-And-Run Charges.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the victim, 51-year-old Eddie Ray King, was riding home from his shift at a French Quarter restaurant when Berfect struck him with his vehicle. Berfect drove off and King died from his injuries.

Through the course of the investigation, NOPD Traffic Fatality detectives, along with the FBI, were able to identify Berfect as the suspect.

Berfect was already in custody after police arrested him for his involvement in an armed robbery and carjacking on St. Charles Avenue. Berfect will be booked on the additional charges.
