What started as a directed NOPD traffic enforcement operation Tuesday turned into a major break in a four-year-old fatal crash investigation.

On September 1, 2026, NOPD Traffic Unit officers were working in the 2600 block of Sage Street in response to community complaints about multiple vehicles traveling the wrong way.

During the operation, officers stopped a vehicle for that exact violation and determined the driver had provided a false identity. Using available law enforcement resources, officers identified the woman as Destiny Goodman (pictured below, black female, DOB: 04-08-2000). Officers learned that Goodman had several active arrest warrants on charges that included domestic battery and domestic criminal damage, as well as a probation/parole violation.

NOPD Officer Corey Campbell then recalled that someone with a similar name had previously been identified as a person of interest in an April 2022 traffic fatality investigation. Officer Campbell contacted Traffic Fatality Unit Investigator Richard Chambers, the lead detective on the case, who confirmed Goodman was the person investigators had been seeking in that case.

Details of the 2022 case are as follows:

On Sunday, April 17, 2022, NOPD Traffic investigators were called to the scene of a fatal accident involving a hit and run driver at the intersection of North Miro and Pauger streets in the Fifth District.

Investigators determined that a tan Chevrolet Suburban was traveling the wrong way down Pauger Street when the vehicle struck a Honda Accord.  Three other vehicles were also struck, with one pushed onto the sidewalk where several pedestrians were struck. Four victims were taken to the hospital with injuries. 62-year-old Senetta Hodges later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. 58-year-old Joseph Clark was pronounced dead on scene. The driver and occupants of the Suburban fled the scene.

During the investigation, Goodman was subsequently identified as the owner of the Suburban and a person of interest in the fatality.

Yesterday (September 1, 2026), Goodman was taken into custody on the outstanding warrants and was subsequently arrested for two counts of manslaughter in connection with the deaths of Joseph Clark and Senetta Hodges after she allegedly confessed to the crash.

“This is a great example of officers staying alert, following the information in front of them and taking that extra step,” NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said. “A traffic stop led detectives back to a case that had been waiting years for an answer.”

The arrest comes as NOPD also continues focused traffic-enforcement efforts across the city and follows the department’s recent multi-agency Operation Golden Eagle enforcement initiative.
