The NOPD has arrested Aumir J. Handshaw (black male, DOB: 10-23-2008) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on August 31, 2026, in the 400 block of Bourbon Street.

At about 1:24 a.m. on August 31, NOPD officers responded to a call of shots fired at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male gunshot wound victim. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased.

Officers detained a male subject attempting to flee the scene. The subject, later identified as Handshaw, was questioned and later arrested on one count of second-degree murder.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office will identify the victim in this incident and determine preliminary cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
