NOPD, LSP Arrest Suspect in Homicide Investigation

On September 3, 2026, the NOPD and Louisiana State Police arrested Robert G. Rodriguez (pictured, black male, DOB: 04-14-2003) in its investigation of a homicide that occurred that same day in the 4400 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

At about 2:00 p.m. on September 3, NOPD Third District officers received a call at about a shooting at the location. Responding officers found an adult male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. New Orleans EMS transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The signal for the incident was then changed to a homicide, and NOPD Homicide Section detectives assumed control of the investigation.

During the investigation, Louisiana State Police Troop NOLA troopers located a vehicle that was seen fleeing from the homicide scene. The vehicle became disabled a short distance away, at which time NOPD and LSP personnel arrived and set up a perimeter in the area. An occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Rodriguez, was located and detained for questioning. After questioning, NOPD detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Rodriguez on one count of second-degree murder. Rodriguez was arrested and booked accordingly into the Orleans Justice Center, while also being booked on an outstanding court capias warrant as well as on a traffic warrant.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will provide identification of the victim and determine preliminary cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

No further information is currently available.

The NOPD thanks LSP Troop NOLA for its assistance in this operation.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing. Anyone with additional information that can assist is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
