NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD today (September 24, 2025) has arrested Wallace Gilmore (black male, DOB: 09-22-1976) in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on September 22, 2025, in the 2700 block of Lasalle Street, in the Sixth District.

Just before noon on September 22, NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a call of a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male gunshot wound victim on scene. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased. At that time, the incident was reclassified as a homicide.

Earlier today, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 59-year-old Willie Lemar Jr. and determined preliminary cause of death to be from gunshot-related injuries.

As the investigation progressed, NOPD Homicide Section detectives developed and positively identified Gilmore as the perpetrator in this incident. Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Gilmore on one count of second-degree murder.

Gilmore was located and arrested today (September 24) by NOPD Homicide Section detectives, Sixth District officers and members of the department’s Violent Crime Abatement and Investigative Team in the 3000 block of Freret Street. He will be booked accordingly into the Orleans Justice Center.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
