NOPD Investigating Homicide in the Fifth District

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is investigating a homicide by shooting that occurred today (September 26, 2021) in the 5200 block of North Rampart Street. 

At around 9:39 p.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of aggravated battery by shooting at the location.  Upon arrival, officers discovered a 19-year-old man suffering with a gunshot wound.  He was pronounced dead on scene.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. 

No additional details are available at this time.  The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
