NOPD Apprehends Four Subjects for Possession of Stolen Property after Chase; Recovers Weapon in Third District

NOPD Third District officers have arrested four male juvenile subjects today (September 11, 2020) for possession of stolen property and illegal possession of a weapon.

At around 6:53 a.m., the subjects were observed by a citizen tampering with car door handles in the 1700 block of Brutus Street.  One subject was also observed with a weapon.  The subjects fled the area in a vehicle, later determined to be stolen, when officers responded.   They were observed by other patrolling officers near Marigny and Mendez Streets.  Soon after, the subjects abandoned the car near Holy Cross Primary School.  One subject was immediately apprehended, and a perimeter was quickly set up to search for the others who were found and arrested in the 5100 block of Western Street.  A block grid search was performed with the assistance of ATF to recover the weapon, which was eventually found in the 5500 block of Elysian Fields in a vacant lot.

Two subjects are 17 years old and two are 15 years old.  Three subjects are being charged with possession of stolen property.  The fourth subject (17 year-old) is being charged with both possession of stolen property and possession of an illegal weapon.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Third District detectives at 504-658-6030.
