NOPD Arrests Suspect for Gun, Drug Possession in Eighth District

The NOPD arrested Kevin Ford (pictured, DOB: 07-03-1988) after he was found to be in illegal possession of marijuana and a loaded firearm on September 16, 2019.

At or about 11:40pm, NOPD Eighth District Task Force detectives were on foot patrol in the 500 block of Canal Street near Exchange Alley when they observed a male subject place a hand-rolled cigar into his mouth, light the cigar and emit a cloud of smoke. The detectives smelled the smoke and distinguished it to have the distinct odor of marijuana. At that time, the detectives approached the subject, later identified as Ford, and placed him under arrest. During a search of Ford, additional marijuana was found in Ford’s backpack, along with a loaded semi-automatic handgun.

Ford was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for illegal carrying of a firearm and illegal possession of marijuana.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is asked to contact NOPD Eighth District detectives at 504-658-6080.
