Suspect Arrested in Homicide on Airline Highway

The NOPD Homicide Unit has arrested Junior Verney (DOB:1- 24- 1995) in connection to a homicide that occurred earlier today (Sept. 15) in the 9200 block of Airline Highway.

 At about 5:09 a.m., Third District officers were dispatched to investigate an aggravated battery by shooting near the Sterling Xpress business in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 29-year-old male victim across the street on Airline Highway suffering from gunshot wounds.

Through the course of the investigation, Verney was developed as the perpetrator in the incident. He was arrested and booked with second degree murder.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name and official cause of death.
