Suspect Arrested in Armed Robbery on Dorothea Street

The NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad today (Sept. 14, 2017) arrested Elroy Johnson (DOBN: 02-20-2000) in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in the 6100 block of Dorothea Street on July 1, 2017.

Investigation revealed that at about 7:30 p.m., Johnson allegedly observed two females entering a vehicle in the area. Johnson is then believed to have approached the vehicle and pointed a firearm at one of the victims while demanding she exit the vehicle. The females complied, at which time Johnson entered the vehicle and fled the scene. During his flight, Johnson reportedly noticed that a toddler was in a child seat in the rear of the vehicle, stopping to let the child out of the vehicle around the corner from the scene of the incident. The child’s mother located the toddler, who was found unharmed. The victim’s vehicle was then recovered the following day in the 14000 block of Linden Street.

As investigation progressed, evidence linked to the incident led detectives to develop Johnson as a suspect.

Upon Johnson’s arrest, a search warrant was served on his residence. During the search, detectives located a handgun inside the residence, along with clothing Johnson was seen wearing on surveillance video during the incident and that the victim described Johnson to have been wearing at the time of the incident.

Johnson was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for armed robbery.
