NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide on Tupelo Street

NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad officers today (September 28, 2017) arrested Torran Stewart (DOB: 06-26-1992) in connection with a homicide that occurred in the 1400 block of Tupelo Street on September 19, 2017.

At about 7:31 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive male lying on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing. No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

As investigation into the incident progressed, detectives were able to develop Stewart as the perpetrator.

Stewart was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center with second degree murder, as well as for a probation violation.
