NOPD Arrests Suspect in Aggravated Assault with a Firearm on Chef Menteur Highway

The NOPD today (September 15, 2017) arrested Dwayne Russell (DOB: 09-07-1967) in connection with an aggravated assault with a firearm that took place on September 1 in the 9600 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

Detectives believe that on this date, Russel reportedly spotted an ex-coworker in a parking lot in the 9600 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Russell then allegedly drove his vehicle into the parking lot and engaged the victim in a verbal confrontation. Russell then reportedly went into his vehicle and retrieved a pistol and threatened to do harm to the victim. The victim fled from the parking lot and observed Russell chase after him on foot through the parking lot.

Seventh District detectives, with the assistance of the Violent Offenders Warrant Squad, arrested Russell and executed a search warrant on Russel’s vehicle. The search revealed a fully loaded handgun inside of the vehicle.

Russell was arrested and charged aggravated assault with a firearm.
