NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for October 6-12, 2024

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of October 6-12, 2024.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

  • On October 10, the NOPD arrested Devain Washington (black male, DOB: 09-15-2000), who was wanted in both North Texas and New Orleans after a brief standoff with NOPD Special Operations Division officers in 6000 block of Wales Street. Washington was wanted in North Texas on charges of Aggravated Assault. He was also wanted in New Orleans on a Court Capias for 2021 firearms charges.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 355 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 43-percent decrease compared to 619 arrests made during the same period in 2023.

Gun seizures

Additionally, as of October 7, the NOPD in 2024 had seized 1,752 firearms in criminal investigations. This is a 22-percent decrease compared to 2,251 such seizures made during the same period in 2023.
