NOPD Arrests Suspect in Third District Shooting Investigation

The NOPD arrested William Decou (black male, DOB: 10-26-1996) shortly after he allegedly committed a shooting today (October 22, 2022) in the 2600 block of Lavender Street.

At about 9:16 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting that occurred at the location. Upon further investigation, detectives determined that the male victim was bending down into his vehicle to retrieve an item when an armed suspect approached from behind. The suspect then reportedly opened fire, striking the victim to the foot. The victim was transported to a local hospital.

During investigation into the incident, a subject matching a description received of the perpetrator was located at the intersection of Gentilly Boulevard and Franklin Avenue. The subject, identified as Decou, was positively identified as the perpetrator of the incident and placed under arrest. Decou was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.
