NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

On October 12, 2021, the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad (VOWS) and the U.S. Marshals arrested Wilbert Jefferson (photo not available, black male, DOB: 12-18-1992) in the investigation of a homicide on August 9, 2021 in the 2200 block of Allen Street.

At around 1:05 a.m. on October 13, NOPD Fifth District officers were patrolling in the area when they heard shots fired. As officers were responding, an aggravated battery by shooting incident was reported at the same location. An adult male and 15-year-old teenage juvenile female were struck by gunfire in this incident and arrived via private conveyance to a local hospital, where the adult male victim was pronounced deceased.

As investigation into the incident progressed, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Jefferson as a suspect in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant for one count each of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

NOPD VOWS and U.S. Marshals located Jefferson in Metairie, La. and arrested him without incident. Jefferson was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center as a fugitive and will be transferred to Orleans Parish to be booked accordingly.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Unit Detective Walter Edmond at 504-658-5300.
