NOPD seeking Person of Interest in First District Aggravated Assault

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is seeking information that can lead to the location of a person of interest who may have knowledge about an aggravated assault incident that happened on September 7, 2019.

At around 1:00 a.m., Rosendo Mendez (pictured, DOB: 10/27/81) and an unknown male tried to enter Legends Bar located in the 2500 block of Canal Street.  The victim, working as a security officer, denied their entry because both men appeared to be intoxicated.   Afterward, the unknown male allegedly retrieved a small axe from a vehicle, and threatened the victim by chasing him around the bar with the weapon.  Mendez reportedly stood guard while the incident happened, before both men left the establishment in a gray Chevrolet Silverado.  The car travelled east on North Rocheblave toward Bienville Street.

Mendez is only a person of interest.

Anyone with additional information on the whereabouts of Mendez or the unknown male is asked to contact NOPD First District detectives at 504-658-6010, or to call anonymously to Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at  1-877-903-STOP (7867).
