NOPD Quickly Arrests Suspect in Seventh District Shooting, Battery Incident

The NOPD arrested Baron Sopsher (pictured, DOB: 10-06-1986) in the investigation of an aggravated battery by shooting that occurred on October 20, 2019.

Through investigation, NOPD Seventh District detectives determined that at approximately 7:21 p.m., Sopsher was involved in an altercation with the female victim in the 11600 block of Hayne Boulevard. During the altercation, Sopsher reportedly began to beat and strangle the victim. The victim reportedly obtained a handgun that was concealed in Sopsher’s pant leg.  Shopsher then allegedly disarmed the victim and shot her in the leg before fleeing the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Sopsher was later located at a local hospital, seeking treatment after allegedly suffering an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the incident.

Upon release from medical care, Sopsher was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for aggravated second degree battery, battery of a dating partner, battery of a dating partner by strangulation, battery of a dating partner – child endangerment and illegal carrying of a weapon.
