NOPD to Kick-Off 2018 Night Out Against Crime

NOPD to Kick-Off 2018 Night Out Against Crime

Today (Oct. 16) at 5:00 p.m., Superintendent Michael Harrison, along with Mayor Latoya Cantrell, the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD), and other city, state and federal leaders will kick-off the citywide Night Out Against Crime at A.L. Davis Park, located at 2600 Lasalle Street. The event is free and open to the public.

The 35th Annual Kelly Marrione Night Out Against Crime brings together residents, businesses and organizations across the city to learn more about safety and to help network and combine efforts to curb crime in the community.

The kick-off  event will connect residents to local resources like free health screenings, job opportunities and to the men and women in law enforcement who work in our neighborhoods every day. 

 

Health & Wellness

LSU Health & Sciences Center will be on site providing:

  • Free Blood pressure test
  • Free Glucose tests
  • Information on health, nutrition and education with healthy snacks

 

Take Advantage of Community Resources

Participants will have a chance to learn more about community programs and resources from the following organizations:

  • LSU Ag Center
  • Cox Communication
  • Limitless Vistas
  • Girl Trek 
  • NOFD Safe house
  • LA SPCA
  • NOLA Crimestoppers
  • NOPD Victim Witness Assistance

Free food and beverages will be provided thanks to donations from Domino’s Pizza, Coca-Cola, Raising Cane’s and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office.
 

Get Connected to Available Jobs

The following employers and organizations will be on-hand with information on job opportunities and upcoming job fairs:

  • New Orleans Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau
  • Domino’s Pizza
  • Raising Canes
  • Sewerage & Water Board

 

Enjoy Family-Friendly Activities

The following organizations will provide family-friendly activities throughout the night:

  • Audubon Nature Institute will have its Wetland Express on-hand with animals for children to interact with
  • NORD will provide spacewalks
  • Youth Run NOLA will host relay races
  • New Orleans Saints mascot Gumbo will be available for photos.

In addition to the kick-off event, close to 200 neighborhood events are expected to take place across the city. Chief Harrison and the NOPD Commanders for each district will be moving between events throughout the night, reaching out to the community and thanking them for their support.
