NOPD Proactively Takes Two Firearms and Drugs off the Street at Carondelet and Canal

The NOPD proactively working the Carondelet and Canal streets area Friday night, October 19, 2018, at around 6:20 p.m., removed two guns a few hours prior to a homicide near the location.

NOPD officers Patrick McFarlane and Johnathan Fowlkes were on bicycle proactive patrol near the intersection of Carondelet and Canal streets when they observed two subjects selling merchandise out of a van without an occupational license. The sign name on the side of the van read “Weed World Candies”. The officer smelled the distinct and unambiguous odor of marijuana coming from the van. Officers later discovered six partially burnt hand rolled cigars containing marijuana and a clear plastic bag containing marijuana. Officers then issued 28-year-old Artesia Robinson and 32-year-old Tony Richardson a summons for illegal possession of marijuana.

Upon further investigation and search incidental to arrest, officers also found two 9mm semi-automatic handguns.

Richardson was also issued a summons for illegal carrying of a firearm by certain persons.
