ARRESTED: NOPD. U.S. Marshals Apprehend Suspect in Sixth District Armed Robbery

Members of the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals have arrested Tony Gaines (DOB: 07-11-1970) in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on October 5, 2018 at the intersection St. Thomas and St. Mary streets in the Sixth District.

At about 2 p.m. on Oct. 5, NOPD detectives responded to a call of an armed robbery at the location. The victim told detectives that he met with his friend, identified as Gaines, at Gaines’ residence. After staying at Gaines’ residence that evening, the victim said, he was in a parking lot on St. Thomas street leaving the residence when Gaines allegedly brandished a handgun and pointed it at the victim’s head, demanding the victim’s money. The victim reportedly complied and gave Gaines money and prescription medication before Gaines reportedly fled the scene.

Through investigation, detectives were able to develop Gaines as the perpetrator and obtain a warrant for his arrest.

Gaines was located and arrested on October 19 at the intersection of Prytania and Toledano streets. He was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for one count of armed robbery.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Sixth District detectives at 504-658-6060.
