NOPD Arrests Suspects on Attempted Homicide, Gun, Drug Possession Charges

On October 11, 2017, NOPD Sixth District officers arrested Jonathan Young (DOB: 08-11-1985) and Randy Calvin (DOB: 03-24-1991) on charges including accessory to attempted homicide and gun and drug possession charges during a traffic stop at the intersection of Washington Avenue and South Robertson Street.

At about 5:35 p.m., Sixth District Officers stopped the vehicle after it matched the description of a vehicle connected to an attempted homicide incident that occurred in the 1900 block of Magazine Street on August 25, 2017. Upon checking the name of the driver, later identified as Calvin, officers learned that Calvin was wanted as an accessory after the fact to the attempted murder incident.

Upon further investigation of the vehicle, the rear passenger – later identified as Young –reportedly began making furtive movements into the trunk of the vehicle through an access door. Detectives searched the vehicle and discovered approximately one gram of heroin on the floorboard, along with a handgun and a digital scale with powder residue.

Young was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for possession of heroin, illegal carrying of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Calvin was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for accessory after the fact to attempted second degree murder, related to the Magazine Street incident.

Anyone with additional information on either of the aforementioned incidents is asked to contact Sixth District detectives at 504-658-6060. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
