Suspect Arrested by NOPD in Attempted Residential Burglary on Vermilion Boulevard

Minutes after responding to a call of a suspicious person attempting to burglarize a residence in the 5600 block of Vermilion Street on Thursday, October 6, 2016, the NOPD arrested Michael Howard (DOB: 08-29-1994) in connection with the incident.

At about 1 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call regarding an unknown male attempting to break into a residence. Upon the officers’ arrival, they identified themselves and ordered the subject to stop. The subject then fled the area on foot, at which time officers pursued on foot. After setting a perimeter in the area, officers were able to locate and apprehend the subject without incident near a residence on Elysian Fields Avenue. A witness later identified Howard as the suspect in the incident.

It was later determined that Howard had allegedly attempted to gain entry to the residence by using a concrete block to smash out the rear door window and door handle.

Howard, pictured below, was arrested and booked into Central Lockup on charges of attempted simple burglary of a residence and resisting an officer.

Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
