UPDATE: NOPD Investigating a Murder on Virgilian Street

The NOPD is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred today (Oct. 25) in the 6600 block of Virgilian Street and claimed the life of a female victim.

At about 3:25 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area. Upon arrival and further investigation, officers learned that the victim was sitting in a vehicle when an unknown black male opened fire on the vehicle. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was transported to an area hospital for treatment, but later died as a result of her injuries.

The NOPD is investigating a reported shooting in the Seventh District.

Around 3:30 p.m. today (Oct. 25), NOPD officers responded to a shooting in the 6600 block of Virgilian Street. Upon arrival they discovered one female victim. EMS brought the victim to the hospital. No additional details are available at this time.

Aggravated Battery with a Firearm

In Louisiana, battery committed with a dangerous weapon is a felony punishable by a fine of up to $5,000, up to 10 years in prison, or both. The offender is also subject to special punishment under Louisiana’s firearm sentencing enhanced statute.
