NOPD Homicide detectives are looking to speak to a man identified as a person of interest in their investigation of a murder on September 27, 2016 in the 1400 block of Newton Street.
At about 2:05 p.m., NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive female victim in the front passenger side seat of a vehicle and suffering from a gunshot wound to the body, as well as a male victim in the driver seat suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. The victims were transported to a local hospital where the female passenger was later pronounced dead, at which point the incident was reclassified as a homicide.
Detectives believe that Armand Matthews, aka “Budda,” may have information pertinent to this investigation. Matthews is considered as a person of interest, and is not wanted in the incident. Investigators would like to speak with Matthews concerning the incident.
Matthews, pictured below, is known to frequent several neighborhoods located on the westbank of both Orleans and Jefferson parishes.
