NOPD Investigating Traffic Fatality on Earhart Boulevard

The NOPD Fatality Section is investigating a single car crash that left two unidentified female passengers dead and the male driver (DOB: 3/16/1949) of South Carolina in serious condition.

On October 15, 2016, at approximately 7:03 a.m., officers responded to a traffic crash near the intersection of Earhart Boulevard and South Broad Street. The driver of a burgundy 2015 Ford 150 was traveling northbound on Earhart Boulevard, for reasons unknown, apparently lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle hit the right curb, left the road, traveled on the grassy area under the Broad Street overpass and then crashed into the bridge support.

EMS arrived on the scene and rendered medical aid to the front and rear passengers, but both female passengers died on the scene.

The driver was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

Blood and alcohol tests are pending and the investigation is ongoing.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an official autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The Coroner’s office will release the victim’s identity after notification of family members.
