Here's How You Can Track Police Response Times in Your District

Earlier this month, the NOPD launched a new, holistic, data-driven approach to police management known as MAX, or Management Analysis for Xcellence.

MAX replaces the department COMSTAT meetings which were mainly focused on information sharing regarding crime trends. The new program, which is available to the public online, takes that approach even further by focusing not only on crime, but on all other topics for which a police commander has responsibility.

So what can you do with MAX?

You can review Response Times in your police district for Emergency and Non-Emergency Calls. NOPD looks at three separate measures on Response Time:

  • Average response time – the average time it takes to get to the call.
  • Median response time – the time it takes to get to 50 percent of calls.
  • 90th Percentile – the time it takes to get to 90 percent of calls.

As MAX shows, all three of these measures have decreased substantially for emergency calls in the last 52 weeks. This increase is most pronounced for the 90th percentile which shows that in the last four weeks, NOPD responds to 90 percent of all emergency calls in 19.6 minutes. Not only that, but the average response time has decreases from 20 minutes in October 2015 to 11 minutes today.
