NOPD is investigating a double homicide that occurred in the Second District.
While on routine patrol around 1:20 p.m., Second District officers heard gunshots. As they were attempting to determine the location of the gunfire, they were flagged down by a citizen and directed to the 8600 block of Belfast Street.
When they arrived, they discovered two victims suffering from an undetermined number of gunshot wounds. Those victims died at the scene.
Two additional victims were also discovered. Those individuals were transported to a local hospital by EMS.
Investigators are in the process of gathering information that will help them identify a person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No further information is available at this time.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
