The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that claimed the life of an unidentified adult male victim. The incident occurred on U.S. 90 West near Galvez Street, this evening (November 17).

Around 5:17 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to a call involving a traffic accident on U.S. 90 West. When they arrived, they discovered the male pedestrian suffering from injuries he sustained after he was struck by a 52-year-old male driver of a 2006 Ford Ranger.

Traffic detectives learned that the male pedestrian was crossing the highway when he was struck by the Ford that was traveling westbound on U.S. 90. The male pedestrian died on the scene.

The driver of the Ford stopped immediately. The driver was brought to the Traffic Compound for testing.

Blood and alcohol tests are pending. No charges have been filed at this time, and are not expected.

The investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing.

Detective Danny Ellis is in charge of the on-going investigation and can be reached at 504-658-6205.

No further information is currently available. The Coroner’s office will determine an official cause of death and release the victim’s identity after completion of autopsy and notification of family members.
