ARRESTED: Suspect Apprehended by NOPD in Shooting on Thayer Street

The NOPD today (November 7, 2018) has arrested Eric Irons (DOB: 04-13-1998) in connection with a shooting that occurred on November 4, 2018 in the 400 block of Thayer Street.

Through investigation, NOPD Fourth District detectives learned that the 15-year-old female victim in this incident reportedly received a message from Irons asking to meet at an abandoned residence. Once there, an argument ensued between the two. Irons allegedly removed a handgun from his backpack, unloaded the weapon, pointed it at the victim and squeezed the trigger. The gun then reportedly fired, striking the victim in the chest. Irons then allegedly fled the location. The victim was transported to an area hospital via EMS.

During the course of the follow-up investigation, Irons was positively identified as the perpetrator, and an arrest warrant was obtained.

Members of the NOPD’s Special Operations Division conducting a warrant check in the 1900 block of Beck Street today located Irons, who was taken into custody without incident. Irons was then booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for aggravated second degree battery by shooting.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Fourth District detectives at 504-658-6040.
