NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

On May 3, 2026, the NOPD arrested Rhonda Watts (black female, DOB: 03-15-1969) in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on April 28, 2026, in the 3900 block of Saint Claude Avenue.

At about 2:35 p.m. on April 28, NOPD Fifth District officers responded to an incident where an adult male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital. The vehicle was later located by police.

Through investigation, it was determined that the perpetrator – who was identified as Watts – intentionally struck the victim with the vehicle. The incident was then reclassified as an aggravated battery. The victim was pronounced deceased on May 1, at which time the incident was reclassified as a homicide.

Homicide Unit detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Watts on one count of second-degree murder. Watts was apprehended on May 3 in the 3400 block of Urquhart Street and booked accordingly.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
