NOPD Investigating Homicide in First District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred in the early hours today (May 15, 2023) in the 2100 block of Perdido Street that left one person dead. 
 
At about 2:57 a.m., a security officer patrolling in the area observed a suspicious vehicle sitting idle with the door open in the 2100 block of Perdido Street. The vehicle had crashed into a utility pole. Upon inspection, an unresponsive male victim with a gunshot wound was discovered alongside the vehicle. The victim was declared deceased at the scene. 
 
Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are available at this time. 
 
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of the autopsy and notification of the family.
