The NOPD is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred this evening (May 3, 2023) on Interstate 10 West at the exit to Interstate 610 West and left one person dead.
At about 8:58 p.m., NOPD Third District Officer responded to a call of a pedestrian struck at the location. Through investigation, it was determined that a male bicyclist was operating his bicycle westbound on the shoulder of I-10 when he entered the right lane of traffic. At that time, the victim is believed to have been struck by an unknown westbound passing vehicle, which continued its travel. The victim was declared deceased on scene.
The Orleans Parish Coroner will officially identify the victim in this incident upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
