NOPD Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run in First District

The NOPD is investigating a hit-and-run traffic fatality that occurred on May 14, 2023, at the intersection of Canal Street and N. Rampart Street that left one person dead.

At about 5:33 a.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive adult male at the scene. The victim was declared deceased at the scene. Further investigation revealed that the victim was apparently struck by a passing white Chevrolet Camaro that did not remain on the scene.

The white Chevrolet Camaro was later located abandoned in Metairie.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner will officially identify the victim in this incident upon completion of autopsy and notification of the family.
