The NOPD is investigating a shooting tonight, (May 20, 2023) in the Seventh District that left two people dead and two wounded.
Around 9 p.m. Seventh District officers responded to shooting calls at two different locations, just minutes apart. Investigators now believe those shootings were related and began with shots fired in the 6000 block of Beechcraft Street.
Upon arrival there, they discovered a 17-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. EMS pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Officers also discovered a 31-year-old female had been shot inside her car which had traveled a few blocks from Beechcraft Street, stopping in the 3900 block of Downman Road. She was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later. A two-month-old baby in her vehicle was taken to the hospital, but was found to be uninjured.
Two other shooting victims turned up at local hospitals, a 20-year-old and a 13-year-old, both are in stable condition. Both were believed to have been shot in the 6000 block of Beechcraft Street.
Detectives are working to establish motive and find the perpetrators of this incident.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine official cause of death and release the victims’ names upon completion of autopsy and notification of families.
