NOPD Investigating Traffic Fatality in Fifth District

Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Section are investigating a Hit and Run Traffic Fatality that left an unknown male dead. The offense occurred on May 3, 2022, at the intersection of Alvar and Chickasaw Streets.

According to investigators, shortly before 12:30 a.m., the driver of a 2016 Honda Accord was traveling Southbound on Alvar Street at a high rate of speed, disregarded the red light and struck the driver of a 2014 Nissan Altima. The driver of the Nissan Altima had a green light and made a right turn from Chickasaw Street onto Alvar Street.

There were three occupants traveling in the Honda Accord. One occupant was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene by Emergency Medical Technicians. The other two occupants fled the scene.

The driver of Nissan Altima had no complaint of injury.

The investigation is ongoing. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy and toxicology reports to determine the exact cause of death.
