NOPD Investigating Homicide in Eighth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (May 5, 2021) in the 900 block of Canal Street.

At about 4:52 p.m., NOPD Eighth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to the body. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased. At that time, NOPD's Homicide Unit assumed control of the investigation.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
