NOPD Announces Significant Violent Crime Arrests, Clearances Between May 9-15

Listed below are significant arrests or clearances through warrants or exception obtained between May 9-15, 2021 in investigations by the NOPD:

 

Homicide

  • On May 12, 2021, NOPD Sixth District officers arrested a 15-year-old juvenile male in the investigation of a homicide on April 19, 2021 at the intersection of Washington Avenue and LaSalle Street. The suspect was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center for second-degree murder, armed robbery with a firearm, illegal use of a firearm and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.

 

Shootings

  • On May 15, 2021, NOPD First District detectives obtained an arrest warrant on Darrell Carter (pictured, black male, for aggravated battery by shooting, illegal use of a firearm, aggravated criminal damage to property, and simple criminal damage to property. The incident occurred in the 300 block of N. Tonti Street on May 6, 2021. Detectives are also working to identify a second black male suspect in this investigation.   • On May 14, 2021 NOPD Sixth District detectives arrested Perry Briley Sr. (pictured, male, DOB: 09-23-1996) for attempt second degree murder, illegal carrying of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. The incident occurred in the 2200 block of Martin Luther King on May 13, 2021.
  • On May 12, 2021, the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals, with assistance from the Kenner Police Department, arrested Darran Boykins (pictured, black male, DOB: 11-13-1964) on multiple arrest warrants in relation to four incidents under investigation by the NOPD. Boykins was located in Kenner, La. and arrested without incident in relation to the following investigations:
    • An aggravated battery by shooting incident on April 25, 2021 in the 300 block of Bourbon Street, in the Eighth District. An arrest warrant was obtained for Darran Boykins on five counts of aggravated battery and a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A second wanted suspect, Dorrell Boykins (pictured, male, DOB: 07-12-1996) has also been identified as a principle in this investigation and remains at large.     • An aggravated battery by shooting incident on April 24, 2021 in the 2100 block of Jackson Avenue, in the Sixth District. An arrest warrant was obtained for Boykins on two counts of attempted murder and one count of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to call NOPD Sixth District detectives at 504-658-6060.
    • An aggravated assault and kidnapping incident on March 25, 2021 in the 1500 block of Numa Street, in the Fourth District. An arrest warrant was obtained for Boykins on charges of aggravated second-degree kidnapping, aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, simple kidnapping and battery on a dating partner.     • An aggravated assault incident on March 20, 2021 in the 1700 block of North Tonti Street. An arrest warrant was obtained for Boykins on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Anyone with additional information on this incident can call NOPD First District detectives at 504-658-6010.
  • On May 11, 2021, NOPD Seventh District arrested Kevin D. Tyler III (pictured, black male, DOB: 07-19-1998) for aggravated battery by shooting. The incident occurred in the 11200 block of Curran Boulevard.
  • On May 11, 2021, NOPD Fifth District detectives obtained an arrest warrant for a 16-year-old juvenile male for aggravated battery by shooting. The incident occurred in the 1600 block of N. Roman Street on April 24. The juvenile was already in custody on another charge and is being re-booked for the above warrant.
     

Armed Robbery

  • On May 10, 2021, NOPD Second District detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Randy Lewis (pictured, black male, DOB: 12-07-1990) for armed robbery and felon in possession of a firearm. The incident occurred in the 8100 block of Oak Street on May 10, 2021.
  • NOPD Second District detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Joseph Spencer Ramirez (pictured, white male, DOB: 05-06-1998) for armed robbery. The incident occurred at the intersection of Plum Street and Ferry Place on November 27, 2020.
