NOPD Arrests Suspect for Illegal Firearm Possession in Seventh District

The NOPD has arrested Charles Quinn (DOB: 06-30-1991) after he was found to allegedly be in illegal possession of a handgun on April 21, 2019.

At approximately 10:44 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle bearing no visible license plate in the 4700 block of Majestic Oaks Drive. The vehicle was found to be occupied by two individuals.

During the course of the investigation, the officers detected the distinct odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle. Utilizing the plain smell exception to the search warrant, the officers performed a search of the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

While performing a search of the passenger compartment of the vehicle, the officers discovered a handgun located under the front driver’s seat. The officers secured the firearm, which was found to be loaded.

Upon performing a criminal record search of the driver, identified as Quinn, officers discovered that Quinn had been convicted of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling in 2011. Given the facts and circumstances, Quinn was arrested as a felon in possession of a firearm. Quinn was transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center, where he was booked accordingly.

The passenger of the vehicle was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and subsequently released from the scene.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact NOPD Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070.
