Officers in the Fourth District are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the unknown subject who was captured on surveillance video while burglarizing a vehicle.

The incident happened on Wednesday, (May 2) at or around 1:30 a.m. The victim told police about four weeks ago he brought his vehicle to be serviced at Bencel’s Automotive, located in the 1800 block of Newton Street. When he returned to the location to check on the vehicle, he discovered the stereo system missing and the interior of the vehicle ransacked.

Surveillance video footage shows the suspect entering the vehicle then fleeing the location while carrying a backpack. The subject appears to have a bald head with a black bandana tied around his head. He was wearing a black shirt and light colored pants.

Anyone with additional information that can help Fourth District detectives locate the subject should call 504-658-6040. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
