Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes and Kills Motorcyclist on Interstate 10

The NOPD is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred Sunday night, May 27, 2018, on Interstate 10 and Bullard Avenue.

At about 9:54 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to a call of a vehicle accident at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered a motorcycle and motorcyclist down on the Interstate.

According to initial investigation, the 53-year-old local male driver of a silver BMW motorcycle was seen traveling westbound on Interstate 10 at Bullard Avenue. At this time, an unknown type vehicle hit the motorcycle, causing the driver to be ejected from the motorcycle. The male driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead on the scene as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the unidentified vehicle fled the scene.   

No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the deceased victim's name, upon completion of autopsy.
