NOPD VOWS, U.S. Marshals, Bogalusa Police Arrest Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals, with assistance from the Bogalusa Police Department, has arrested Jamiron Barnes (black male, 08-25-1995) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on March 8, 2023, at the intersection of North Broad and Saint Bernard avenues in New Orleans.

At about 4:23 p.m., NOPD Third District officers were patrolling the area when they were flagged down by a concerned citizen who advised them that a shooting had occurred. Officers then discovered an unresponsive adult male subject down on the neutral ground, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was declared deceased on the scene.

On March 10, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 49-year-old Charles Davalie and determined cause of death to be from gunshot wound injury.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Barnes as the perpetrator in this incident. An arrest warrant was obtained for Barnes on one count of second-degree murder.

Barnes was located today in Bogalusa, La., by members of the NOPD VOWS. U.S. Marshals and the Bogalusa Police Department. He was arrested without incident and will be booked accordingly upon extradition back to Orleans Parish.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Det. Tanisha Smith at 504-658-5300.
