NOPD Quickly Detains, Arrests Suspect in Eighth District Homicide

The NOPD has arrested Daphney D. Jackson (pictured, black female, DOB: 09-16-1997) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred in the early morning hours today (March 20, 2022) in the 700 block of Bourbon Street and left one person dead.

At about 2:05 a.m., NOPD Eighth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject inside of a business with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was declared deceased at the scene and was determined to have been struck by a stray bullet fired from outside of the business.

A subject, later identified as Jackson, was detained at the scene by Eighth District oficers for questioning by Homicide Unit detectives. After questioning and through investigation, Jackson was determined to be the perpetrator in this incident. An arrest warrant was obtained, and Jackson was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Cener on charges of manslaughter, obstruction of justice and illegal use of weapons.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim in this incident and determine official cause of death, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
