NOPD Investigating Homicide in Sixth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred during the early hours today (March 29, 2022) at the intersection of South Derbigny and Josephine streets that left one victim deceased and a second victim injured.

At about 3:43 a.m., NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim at the scene and having sustained a gunshot wound. A second male victim, also having sustained a gunshot wound, was found near the initial scene. Both victims were transported via EMS to a local hospital, where the first victim was later pronounced deceased. At that time, the signal for the incident was changed to a homicide.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
