NOPD Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Seventh District

The NOPD is investigating a fatal hit-and-run vehicle crash that occurred this evening (March 19, 2022) in the 12900 block of Chef Menteur Highway and left one person dead.

At about 8:19 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of a pedestrian struck at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unknown male in the roadway with critical injuries. The victim was declared deceased at the scene by EMS.

Through investigation, it was determined that the male victim was walking in the exit lane of Interstate 510 onto Chef Menteur Highway eastbound when a vehicle exiting I-510 onto Chef Menteur Highway struck the victim and continued its travel eastbound.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will officially identify the victim in this incident and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
