UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Fourth District Shooting

UPDATE: Onaja Stevens was arrested on March 10, 2020 in connection with this investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact NOPD Fourth District detectives at 504-658-6040.

 

ORIGINAL RELEASE: The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Onaja Renee Stephens (pictured, DOB: 10-01-1990) in the investigation of an aggravated battery by shooting that occurred on March 9, 2020 in the 5000 block of Woodland Drive.

At about 9:00 p.m., Stephens and the victim were allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation when Stephens produced a handgun, pointed the gun at the victim and fired the gun. The victim suffered a gunshot wound. Stephens then reportedly fled the location.

Through investigation, Fourth District detectives positively identified Stephens as the perpetrator in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant. Stephens is wanted on charges of aggravated second degree battery, aggravated assault with a firearm and illegal use of a weapon.

Stephens is described as a black male standing about 5’7” with a heavy build, dark brown complexion, short black hair and a beard.
