NOPD Investigates Fatal Sixth District Accident

The NOPD is investigating a fatal accident that killed a pedestrian Monday morning in the Sixth District.

Just after 5 a.m., a taxi driver was heading southbound in the 2800 block of Earhart Boulevard when an unknown white male pedestrian stepped off the curb and entered the roadway on the passenger side of the vehicle.

The taxi driver attempted to avoid the pedestrian but failed. The pedestrian was struck with the front passenger side of the vehicle.

The victim was transported to the University Medical Center where he later died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

There was no crosswalk at the point where the pedestrian entered the roadway.

The driver of the taxi remained at scene after the accident.

Impairment is not considered a factor.

There are currently no charges pending against the driver.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy and release the identity of the victim after notification of the family.
