The NOPD is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred today (March 23, 2017) in the 5000 block of Louisa Street.
At about 1:19 p.m., Third District officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive black male lying in the street suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the body. The victim was transported to an area hospital by EMS, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigation into the incident is ongoing. No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
