This past weekend, the NOPD joined its local, state and federal law enforcement partners across the region for Operation Speed Bump, a coordinated public safety initiative focused on preventing reckless and criminal behavior before it could impact our residents and visitors.

This operation was put in place in response to an advertised event promoting reckless driving on city streets, with expected attendance from a number of people both local and from outside of the area.

As a result of this operation, the NOPD made the following enforcement actions:

• Six (6) arrests were made. Of these, one subject was found to be a fugitive from Texas wanted for felony assault, resisting arrest and for multiple felony traffic warrants.
• One (1) summons was issued.
• Three (3) vehicles were impounded.
• 53 traffic citations were issued.
• 14 parking citations were issued.

Additionally, partner agencies including Louisiana State Police, the National Guard and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted in this operation. Their enforcement actions resulted in the following:

• 14 traffic stops
• Three (3) vehicle pursuits
• Two (2) foot pursuits
• One (1) person located
• One (1) felony arrest
• One (1) stolen vehicle recovery
• One (1) K-9 deployment

NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said that these results show what can be accomplished through law enforcement agencies working together with a common mission of keeping the people of New Orleans safe.

“These partnerships matter,” NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said of this multi-agency operation. “No single agency can do this work alone. When we combine resources, intelligence, technology, and personnel, we become a true force multiplier for public safety.”

Kirkpatrick said that those who choose to engage in reckless, dangerous, or criminal behavior should understand that law enforcement agencies across every level of government are working together, sharing information, and coordinating resources to combat

This level of enforcement is not a one-time occurrence and will continue as events such as this continue to locate in New Orleans. The NOPD will continue to use every partnership available to protect New Orleans, to support its residents and to ensure that the city remains safe for everyone who lives, works and visits.

“Let me be clear – we welcome visitors to our great city and we welcome events. We welcome people coming to experience the most unique city in the world,” Kirkpatrick said. “What we will not welcome is behavior that threatens public safety, disrupts our neighborhoods, endangers motorists or places our residents or visitors at risk. 

“Our message is simple. Enjoy our city. Respect our city. Follow the law.”
