The NOPD today (June 17, 2024) officially welcomed its newest recruits as it launched Recruit Class 202 during an event at the NOPD’s Training and Education Academy.
Deputy Superintendent Jonette Williams, who oversees the Management Services Bureau which includes the Training and Education Academy, welcomed the class. She was joined by City of New Orleans Director of Public Safety and Homeland Security John Thomas, New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation President/CEO Melanie Talia and members of the NOPD’s executive and command staffs.
The 16-member class is comprised of 11 men and five women from states including Louisiana, Florida and New Jersey. Ten of the recruits are African American, three are Hispanic, two are white and one is Asian American. Four of the recruits are bilingual, while two have military service backgrounds.
This is the second recruit class to launch in 2024 and the third to launch under the tenure of current NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick.
The class will undergo 27 weeks of academy-based training before subsequently moving into field training.
