NOPD Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Second District

The NOPD is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred last night (June 21, 2023) on the Earhart Expressway that left one person deceased and a second injured.

At about 10:10 p.m. on June 21, NOPD Second District officers responded to a reported vehicle crash with injury on the Earhart Expressway at the overpass near Monticello Avenue. Through investigation, it was determined that the two victims – a male and a female – were riding on a motorized scooter traveling westbound on the Earhart Expressway when an unknown vehicle struck them from behind. Both victims were ejected from the scooter, while the suspect vehicle fled the scene. The victims were transported to a local hospital, where the female victim was pronounced deceased.

Upon completion of autopsy, the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office will identify the deceased victim and determine cause of death.
